The Asian Food and Agriculture Cooperation Initiative (AFACI) is an inter-governmental and multi-lateral cooperation body aiming to improve food production, realize sustainable agriculture in Asian countries by sharing knowledge and information on agricultural technology.
AFACI is composed of 14 member-countries, namely: Bangladesh, Bhutan, Cambodia, Lao PDR, Indonesia, Kyrgyzstan, Mongolia, Myanmar, Nepal, Philippines, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Vietnam, and Korea. Bhutan and Myanmar joined in 2016 only.
The AFACI Secretariat is based in its headquarter at the International Technology Cooperation Center (ITCC), Rural Development Administration in Jeonju, Korea.
AFACI endeavors to accomplish its goals through the conduct of multilateral projects, international trainings, program workshops and symposia.
Likewise, RDA has cooperate with 12 member-countries in Latin America through KoLFACI(Korea-Latin America Food & Agriculture Cooperation Initiative) and 19 member-countries in Africa through KAFACI(Korea-Africa Food & Agriculture Cooperation Initiative)
In November 2009, the AFACI was officially inaugurated in Seoul, Korea, with the participation of governmental representatives from 12 member countries - Bangladesh, Cambodia, Lao PDR, Indonesia, Kyrgyzstan, Mongolia, Nepal, Philippines, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Vietnam, and Korea and Bhutan and Myanmar which membership have been effective in 2016.
The first AFACI General Assembly Meeting was held in the Philippines in 2010;
2nd Assembly in Korea in 2012, 3rd GA in Vietnam in 2014, 4th GA in Sri Lanka in 2016, and 5th GA in Lao PDR.
