The Asian Food and Agriculture Cooperation Initiative (AFACI) is an inter-governmental and multilateral cooperation body that aims to improve food production and promote sustainable agriculture in Asian countries through knowledge and technology transfer and sharing. To realize its goals, AFACI conducts, manages, funds, and coordinates multilateral projects, international trainings, program workshops, and symposia.
AFACI is composed of 14 member-countries, namely: Bangladesh, Bhutan, Cambodia, Lao PDR, Indonesia, Kyrgyzstan, Mongolia, Myanmar, Nepal, Philippines, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Vietnam, and Korea.
The AFACI Secretariat is based at the International Technology Cooperation Center (ITCC), Rural Development Administration in Jeonju, Korea.
Likewise, RDA has cooperated with 12 member-countries in Latin America through Korea-Latin America Food & Agriculture Cooperation Initiative (KoLFACI) and 19 member-countries in Africa through Korea-Africa Food & Agriculture Cooperation Initiative (KAFACI).

Mission
- Promote sustainable agricultural growth in the Asian region
- Contribute to the consistent economic development of member-countries through technological cooperation in the agricultural and food sectors
Vision
- Established network of Asian countries that jointly address issues on food production, sustainable agriculture, and industrialization of food and agricultural sectors of the Asian region
- Enhanced partnership and leadership of member countries in the international community
- Strengthen cooperation among member-countries toward agricultural technology innovation
- Boost agricultural technology and knowledge transfer and sharing among member-countries

- Formulate appropriate strategies and set directions to promote sustainable agriculture and food security in the Asian region
- Participate in international efforts in promoting agricultural development in the Asian region
The Rural Development Administration (RDA) of Korea initiated the AFACI as part of its efforts to share agricultural knowledge and technologies with Asian countries.
The AFACI was inaugurated in November 2009 in Seoul, Korea with the participation of government representatives from 12 Asian countries. To date, AFACI has fourteen (14) member countries, namely: Bangladesh, Cambodia, Lao PDR, Indonesia, Kyrgyzstan, Mongolia, Nepal, Philippines, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Vietnam, Korea, Bhutan, and Myanmar, with the latter two countries joining in 2016.
AFACI held its first General Assembly Meeting in the Philippines in 2010. The second GA was held in Korea in 2012; 3rd GA was in Vietnam in 2014; 4th GA was in Sri Lanka in 2016; while the 5th GA was held in Lao PDR in 2018.
